Rafael Nadal has resigned from the upcoming ATP Tournament in Paris, which means Novak Djokovic will again take the top of the ATP list after the excellent season he played after returning after the injuries.
The Spaniard continues to be struggling with knee injury and before the duel against Fernando Verdasco had to give up the tournament.
That means that Novak Djokovic will automatically take the first place on the ATP list from next Monday. He currently has 7,535 points, while Nadal lost 170 points and in the updated ATP list will have 7,490 points. Whatever he does in the third round against Damir Jumhur, Novak Djokovic will again be the number one player in the world.
The Serbian tennis player was last ranked first on October 31, 2016, which means he spent exactly two years after he fell from the top of the ATP list. During this period, Novak went through several injuries, and in mid-2017 he had to withdraw due to an injury to the elbow. When he returned to the field earlier this year, he did not look like the old champion, but as the season went by, he improved the game and is now in great shape.
