People who love BDSM have a better sex life

Considering that nearly 60 years have passed since the sexual revolution began, it is quite unlikely that people are still ashamed and afraid to talk about sex, especially when it comes to sexual fantasies and fetishes.

This kind of ignorance and inhibitance only deprives them of sexual pleasure, suggests a recent study whose results have shown that BDSM supporters have a better sex life.

A report published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine shows that people who like BDSM (bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, and sadomasochism / confinement and discipline, domination and subordination and sadomasochism) have fewer sexual problems than the rest of the population. The survey also shows that these people enjoy sex more.

The survey conducted in Italy includes 266 consenting BDSM participants and 200 people who categorically declared that they did not want the BDSM (control group).

The men in the first group reported that they mostly choose the dominant role, and women prefer subordination, and 30% of the respondents in the BDSM group reported that they play both roles.

The survey found that respondents in the first group showed lower levels of stress related to their sex life, while dominant and those who changed the role had a higher level of satisfaction with sex, as well as a lower level of concern about sexuality compared with subordinates and respondents control group.

What basically concludes from the report is that people who are more open to sex and sexuality actually enjoy more and have a healthier sex life.

The author of the research, Filippo M. Nimbi thinks this research is important to counter the stigma surrounding BDSM and other fetishes.

“The main message we want to share is that BDSM is not a pathological phenomenon, nor is it related to psychological problems,” he says.

Nimbie, however, admits that the research has certain limitations, such as that the sample was taken from BDSM communities in Italy. The findings of this study, however, are backed up by those of previous research on a similar topic, that BDSM supporters are generally more satisfied with their sex life compared to other people.
